Two Regional Film Festivals will be conducted: Thiruvanchoor

‘The government has planned to conduct two regional film festivals apart from IFFK, said Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Minister for Cinema. He was delivering the presidential address in the closing ceremony of IFFK 19th edition. This will enable more people to participate in the film festival, he added.
‘Everybody has appreciated the selection of films. As promised, we have conducted the festival by cutting short the expenses. In that way, we have saved a sum of rupees 75 lakhs. From this a sum of Rs. 3 lakhs each will be given to the films selected by the film market for promotion of Malayalam cinema. We will do all the things for promoting and marketing the Malayalam cinema. The government will try its best to implement all the possible recommendations of Adoor Gopalakrishnan Committee’ said the Minister.
Malayalam Cinema is in the hill top of World Cinema, said K C Joseph, Minister for Culture while addressing the function. Through this film fest, we could experience world films. Though some confusion has occurred initially, altogether the film festival was a great success, added the Minister. Leader of the Opposition, V S Achuthanandan, while addressing the gathering complimented the selection of films in IFFK and added that it was this reason that made the festival a major success.
Nuri Bilge Ceylan, the Turkish film maker, who was the guest of honour at the function, said that he was very happy to be in India as this is the country where one of his teachers, Satyajith Ray, belongs. He was honoured in the function by the Governor P Sathasivam.
T Rajeevnath, Chairman of Chalachithra Academy presented the festival report. Cultural Affairs Secretary Rani George IAS welcomed the gathering and S Rajendran Nair; Secretary of Chalachithra Academy expressed the Vote of Thanks. Festival Director Indu Shrikent, and other officials were present. The film Refugiado, which bagged the Golden Pheasant Crow award, was screened at the Nishagandhi Open Theatre after the function.
